"CONCRETE" Word Origin
Concrete is a word that comes from the LATIN word "CONCRETUS". Which means "Packed".
Concrete is a Composite material which consists of Cement, Fine Aggregate, Coarse Aggregate and suitable proportion of Water. "Portland cement" will be used as general cement for production of concrete.
The Chemical reactions between Cement and Water makes the concrete a Solid Mass. Fresh concrete will be in the plastic state, it can be moulded in desired shapes.
Curing of Concrete: The process of maintaining required Temperature and Moisture in the early stage of concrete when it was laid. This process even helps in the gaining of Strength and Durability.
Curing is done by Pouring of water in an adequate amount on the structural member. This is generally an economic method in curing.
Hydration process: As soon as the Curing process starts, a series of chemical reaction undergoes between cement and water to form a concrete mass.
Degradation of Concrete: Concrete Degradation can occur through Physical Damage, Chemical Damage, Spalling and Corrosion of Reinforcement etc.,..
